Making front and rear bumpers out some of these. Got to smoothen them up some to make them look a little nicer and what-not. Weight about 100lbs (just a guess...could be more or less) ...so it was fun walk up the hill from the junkyard with a couple resting on your shoulders lol. I have chrome front and rear bumpers on my 4x4 and they look good...but arent worth having on a truck like mine. They are nice, but wont hold up to much at all. They are very easy to bent and crack. The front has hooks so if I ever get stuck I wouldnt have to use the bumper...but I plan on having a winch up front in the future so I am going ahead with building a front bumper too. Rear is obvious...need a bumper I can hook to without having to worry about it breaking.

Looks like a strong starting point. Easy to add bracket weld & bolt points. Mr T says, "I pity the poor ricers."

Bumper would probally be too high to hit alot of ricers...I can knock the wing off with it tho!

I built my rear bumper out of a piece of channel like that. Tapered the ends and boxed the back with some 1/4" plate. Here's pic of the rear and front I made.

Nice truck clark. Thats about how I want the front bumper to look, except it wont be that big...it will be the size of the rear bumper. Not sure what ill do with the back, probally just a smooth bumper with a removable trailer hitch. Need one I can take off and on fairly easy, it would have to be so low that it would snag on something offroad and look odd if I left it on all the time. So I need to make one that I can just bolt on when I plan on hauling something. A jacked up 4x4 isnt the best thing to haul a truck on...but oh well.

That should hold up just fine. That older, heavier, more durable lasts alot longer metal is the way to go. A buddy of mine has newer chrome bumpers on his 4x4 and it has all these little dents from trees and rocks and just little puny things that are wrecking havock on it. Post some pics after you start working on it. It should work and look great when you are all done. Good Luck!

Ill get pics up when I start. Which I hope isnt too far away, depends on what I have lined up. Hoods you are right about how puny stuff dents chrome ones up...thats the reason im taking them off. Too bad they dont make chrome bumpers that look good like these yet are as strong as the channel iron homemade bumpers.
