Will the step bumper brackets line up with a sport bumper and be a direct bolt on, or do I need to buy new brackets and hardware? Also, would there be wiring provisions for a license plate light under there, or do I have to run new wire?

You will need new brackets and gravel deflectors. There should be a plug on your wiring harness to plug in the new light.

Brackets are different, all of mine have had holes for the license plate lights. There were a couple of different bumpers used as step bumpers due to most of them being dealer installed. The brackets you need will depend on which bumper you use. I'd try to find the one shown by CPNE up top, that's what my trucks with the factory bumpers have had.

My green K20 came with the factory step bumper which is listed on the glove box sticker. I was going to have it chromed, but three shops said it couldn't be done because of the design. I had it dipped and powdercoated in a chrome like color. It is one heavy bumper to carry around. Nothing like those aftermarket ones that you can throw around.

I see you can buy a kit with all the brackets, bolts etc to install a sport bumper. I think I'll just order that. Thanks everyone!

The first 67-72 I had was a long bed step side and the bumper on it , while still a step bumper, the middle of it was recessed so when you opened the tailgate all the way down it didn't hit the bumper. I have seen very few of those since and I'm keeping my eyes open for another one.

I kinda like the look of this moulding and thought it would look real classy on my truck. I've looked at most of the major suppliers webpages and have only seen ones like this listed with wodgrain. Does anyone know where I can buy a new moulding like this. I guess I should check the dealer too.
