Guys and gals,

I have a '72 chevy C10 without power brakes, I'd like to convert it over to power setup.

SO, my question is. What years brake booster will work on my truck? I found a 68 today, but it is a little wider booster than i have seen on 72 stock.

I also found a 77 chevy that looks very similar setup. Is it truly 69-72 the only ones that work?

SO, after I locate the truck that is needed, and take off the booster, What else is needed to convert the stock over? Do I need all the conectors all the way back to the pedal?

Does anybody have a quick minute to write up what I need to do?
or does somebody have a link?

I researched replacing my brake booster on my 72 a couple of years ago, and was disgusted by the prices - for some reason their a little more spendy for a '72 stock. I eventually went with a later model Chevy booster that worked just fine. I've seen some guys that used boosters out of other cars with success. As far as swapping from manual over to power, I haven't had the pleasure yet but I'm sure it'll happen when my project gets that far.

The 72 would not be the same as the 68 for the fact that the 72 had discs up front, and a differant booster.
To be safe, i would only get one off of a 71 or 72 onless someone can tell you 100% for sure that something else would work.
I tried to put a disk/drum booster on a drum/drum truck. No luck.

Guys and Gals,
I just bought a 72 chevy brake booster at a show for $50 I also have brackets and both rods for my truck. I notice that Napa wants $124 bucks for the new booster drum, AND SO, I want to test the old one before I invest $124 in this one. Does anyone know a halfway decent way of testing this one before I put it on the truck? OR is installing and trying it out worth $124?

The rods in both sides do move, so I'm just curious about the diaphram and valves inside.

Can I hook it to vaccum? Air compressor or something to check it??

What are your thoughts?

Yeah, just hook it up to a vacuum pump and make sure it holds vacuum.

Guys,
I got it hooked up tonight, checked the vaccum (it's hard to tell if it worked). but started the engine and then tried the brakes. The pedal was very hard, all the way thru the push...

I think i might have done something wrong. It's very late tonight, so I'm going to sleep and I'll try something tommorrow. maybe it needs to be taken apart and tried again.. I think something is NOT lined up right.

Confused in Georgia,
