Column to Floor Shift Conversion
Hello,
I have a 72 truck which came out of the factory with a floor shift manual(high hump). It now has a column shift auto with the hole in the tranny tunnel covered by plate. I was contemplating changing it back to a floor shift when I start overhauling her. Will this be a huge job? I am currently running a 350SBC with a TH400..... Was thinking of going with a Lokar type shifter coming through the floor and putting in a flaming river or similar polished column.... Cheers Lee

Are you staying with an automatic or going manual?
Automatic Lokar shouldn't be a big deal, only I'd be surprised if it would use the hole that was there. Nothing a plasma cutter, jigsaw or sawzall couldn't deal with. Shifters in the middle get in the way for passengers. Make sure it locks into drive so it won't get kicked into reverse or park while motoring. Going back to a manual. Not so easy. Look for a donor manual for all the parts.
