diesel question
Never owned or worked on one till now. We had a hard freeze Tuesday night and the thing won't start now. It worked fine before, and it spins over now. It tries to start but won't catch. Could bad glow plugs cause this? I'm almost certain that is the reason, but wanted to know if anyone had any other suggestions?

it could be bad glow plugs or the glow plug controller. If its hard to start carry some ether (starting fluid) with you.. dont use it too often but every once in awhile wont hurt. if you continue to have problems starting it... then its most likely a glow plug issue.

Be careful if you use ether, it can be dangerous on glow-plug engines. It's not hard to check to see if the glow plugs are working. If the "wait" light comes on and then goes off after a few seconds, then you know at least part of the system is working. To check to see if the power is getting to the plugs, hook a 12V test light to the wire at the glow plugs, then turn the key on. The light should come on then go off when you hear the controller and relay click. To check each glow plug(key off), unhook the wire from it then clip the test light to the +pos on the battery and touch it to the terminal on the glow plug. If the light doesn't come on, then the glow plug is burnt. Hope that helps.

How hard of a freeze are we talking about? The diesel fuel could be gelled. Just my .02
