Fusebox question
Can anyone tell me in the pix below, if there is supposed to be a fuse (and what amperage) in the spot that is marked aux-heat A/C? In the pix, there is no fuse in there and I have a 1984 (just bought) with A/C that the compressor is not kicking in.,....wondered if there is supposed to be a fuse in there and what size/amperage??

I think the AUX AC fuse is for suburbans and stuff with rear air. On my '83 the fuse at the top right is for the AC. If your blower works then the fuse should be OK, I think the same fuse works the AC comp. Try jumping the low pressure switch on the AC accumulator near the firewall, if the compressor comes on then it's either low on freon or the low pressure switch could be bad. Good luck.

Unplug the switch from the accumulator (aluminum silver cylinder by firewall on passenger side). With the vehicle running and the a/c turned to the on position; install a jumper wire in the switch end. If the compressor kicks on, ur freon is more likely low.

Any piece of scrap wire (even bailing/tie wire), something just to make a connection between the 2 connections inside of the switch plug. In sense what you are doing you are going to be bypassing the accumulator and making a direct current back to the compressor.

Yes it's the cylinder where your freon is stored (follow the 2 a/c black lines that come off of your compressor). The accumulator actually sits above & behind of your wheel- well in front of your heater box (which is connected to your firewall). It's the cylinder that "sweats" when your a/c running. It's the plug/switch that has to do with the accumulator, a 2 wire plug.

dont!!!
Dont try to take the switch out of the accumilator because it is full of freon and just a bad switch you are going to end up with a face full of oil and freon!!

Yes, good pointer for someone not acquainted with A/C systems. Occasionally the schrader valve in the fitting can stick(unless it was left out completely)and when you start to unscrew the switch the freon/oil mixture, if there is any left, can spray everywhere. Then lights, bells, sirens, whistles, horns and other assorted noisy things will go off, and the freon police will come haul you away and lock you up, never to be seen or heard from again, and all of your children will be born naked!!!!!!! Or at least that's what I'm told. LOL
