i bought me a new old 1968 project truck my ? is did 1968 chevy custom trucks come out with a motorola solid state am push buttom radio this truck had one all i have ever seen said gm on them this one works pertty nice shape it has one of the push buttoms broke off nice other than that it will be f/s when i find out a fair price i just wondered if it is a factory radio thanks bill

I think the Motorolas may have been a dealer installed item. My 66 3/4 ton was ordered from the factory without a radio, and the dealer installed a push button motorola. (I have confirmed this with the original owner). I would suspect they did the same thing in 68.

Motorola & others (I believe Philco & Zenith)offered retrofit AM's back when for cars that didn't have the radio's in them. You could get them installed at the dealer or buy them from Sears & other places much like the aftermarket radios today. I have a few of these units mint in box. Some have different adapters for different make vehicles. Depending on the vintage of the unit, it may have a seperate control head (small(with the actual radio being remotely mounted under the dash somewhere. While these units work well, I haven't noticed them commanding money anywhere near what a factory radio does... They are a neat novelty item to say the least...

In 12 years of junk yarding I have probably seen 2 of the Motorola radios in 67-72 trucks. They usually have different knobs than the GM radios.
