Question about removing the heads
Ok, how can i start this, I have been trying to remove both heads from the motor for the past 2 hours, i loosen up the 8 bolts inside and the 8 bolts outside, and I tried to remove the heads but it just wont budge, is there something that im missing, i left the rockers and rods in place, do I have to remove them two before removing the heads. by the way i have a 87 chevy sctotsdale with a 305 engine. please help. thanks

If you have all the bolts out they just need pryed loose. It will take some thing healthy like a tire iron large pry bar..

if you have all the bolts out...they should come off.....
use a pry bar.....in the front and pry up.....they might be stuck real good.... you do have the exhaust manifolds off correct? mark |

I pretty sure it's 9 under the valve cover and 8 along the exhaust manifold.
I always pull the rods so they don't get bent when I pull the heads. It will also make it easier to put back in.

yes the manifolds are off, but i only counted 8 inside the valve cover and 8 outside.

there are 17 bolts for each head so you missed one somewhere

ok then i missed one from the inside, it has to be somewhere inside. I will continue to look thanks very much.

Heck ive even used a small flat head screwdriver to pop them up and break the seal. Good luck man...Later Mike
