K5 - C10 Bigblock.

As some of you know my time spent here at this board has led me to aquire a 79 K5 2wd project...a rust free 73 K5 tub in arizona and a 89 front clip...so i guess we all know where the project is going body wise...but...

Good friend of mine here in town who found my 2wd K5 has a 73-75ish rusted out C10 burb that came from somewhere near the wyoming border with colorado...it just happens to have a factory 454 turbo 400 combo in it....my price is $500. My thoughts are wouldn't it be cool to have a 2wd K5 with a BB in it...allthough originally i was looking for an LT1 with a modern overdrive trans for fuel mileage....

My bigblock knowledge is limited as i've allways owned small blocks...i know dropping on tbi would be really easy...and it would be kinda cool but i have some questions for those who know and have been there. Do you move the motor mounts to bolt in that big block? How does the extra weight effect the front coils when you lower the K5? Etc....so if anyways has any sage advise...fire away before i buy this darn thing..lol. And of course pics of a gen 2 C10 with bb would be nice also...

Doug, the motor mounts will be the same for all V8's...big or small. They are even the same for 6cyl engines, but they are mounted to a different spot on the towers.

You can't go wrong for the price, snag it up!

Jeff, i noticed that there are a few extra holes in the frame where the motor mounts bolt up...i would assume that you simply go one bolt hole in the oppisite direction...

Starting to balk as all the research points to a 454 rebuild is not cheap...

BTW..i have more 8x10's...1979-80 years..burb-fleetside-k5-etc.
Also you are now linked at blazerchalet.com.

Doug,
They are actually labeled as '6' and '8'.

they might not be cheap up front, but for the money, you can't beat the power/torque.

My friend dave was over today dropping off the 89 front clip for the impending project. Cost me $150...slight rust inside one fender but i think its savable...kept hitting me up about the bigblock...just can't do it..way to much coin to get the bigblock where i'd like it...i'd at the very least like a roller cam set-up...and i like the vortec version in the late 90 burb's...way more coin.

Currently...the 79 has been sitting out the winter...as i save more parts to go to the next level. Crossover steering...shy $200 in parts for custom draglink and new studs for putting the steering arm on the passenger side knuckle...plus i have to install and set up the front arb locker...but since the 79 is so tall and won't fit in the garage no work will get done until it gets above 60 degree's...lol.Then i have to make so custom 5 inch shackles to get the front end level and then we need to install the front ford 1 ton shock brackets to get a lil bit more travel out of the front suspension...probably greek to you C10 guys but thought i'd throw it out there since i have 3 gen 2 K5's...

When i bought the 73 rolling rust free tub in phx i paid an extra $50 for a 90% complete bumper to bumper 1987 K10 wiring harness so...i'm gonna take the one piece rear main 350 i have ont he engine stand and make it accept a factory roller cam....buy a used tbi and we'll have a runner pretty quick...just no tranny but we'll getthat figured out...thinkin 4l60e...shooting for mileage...
