I purchased a 72 2wd blazer with no motor and tranny. I think it has a 3:08 rear end. I am looking at putting in a 3.8l V6 out of a 1995 and up camaro. I found a 700r4 for sale (guy said it was rebuilt with second stage shift kit installed) as well. I want gas mileage not huge horsepower. Already have a big block for that. Any ideas or problems or thoughts on this setup?

That should be a real neat truck as long as you keep the EFI on the engine.

You may be ok with it, underpowered for sure, but I doubt you could tow anything with it.

I would probably go with a newer all aluminum 5.3 fuel injected small block. I believe there is a thread about someone installing one. Light weight, won't work hard to move the truck so it should be fairly fuel efficient. The truck would also be worth more. Just my 2cents worth.

Also how do you intend to use this truck? A daily driver that sees no highway miles, will it have a lift kit and 35" tires? That 3:08 gear and OD trans behind a 6 might work together ok with shorter tires. As far as mileage is concerned you could do as well with a small V8 and have better resale value. IMO

Hey boog its a 2wd kinda doubt it wil have big tires on it.. Sounds like it maybe a little under powered.. Anyone know the weight of a s-10 style blazer verese our full size blazer's..

If using the V6,I`d go to 3.73 ratio.Should move you fine.Don`t know weight difference from S/10,nor hp difference from 250 I6.The 250 rolls a short 1/2t down the road just fine.

Actually the 3.8 would be out of a 95 and up camaro (I read that the V6 puts out 200hp stock). I can't imagine those being much lighter than a blazer. As for wheels, it wouldn't be anything big, probably some 15's. It is to be a daily driver.
