Manual Tranny questions on engine swap
I'm replacing the I6 in my 67 SWB with a 327 from a 67 LWB. I am keeping the 3sp manual trans setup, but I'm not sure which tranny to use. The one from the I6 is quite a bit shorter than the one with the 327. The clutch and tranny with the I6 work fine and have a lot less miles on them, so I thought I would just use that with the 327. But with the 2 trannys being different lengths, I'm not sure now. I have the v-8 engine brackets.
Can I use either tranny, or should I just use the longer one that goes with the 327? Can I use the clutch assembly of the I6 on the 327? Thanks!

If you mount the V8 on the 6 cylinder stands (my choice) you will not need to modify anything else. Trans and driveline will be fine. One you do the V8 stands, if you use the existing trans, the driveline will be too short. With the other trans, you'll just have to do the math and mock it up to see if driveline mods are required. I like the set back of the I6 mounts gives you better weight distribution, ride, and handling IMO.

I figured out that the driveshaft would have to be shortened if I use the bigger tranny that came with the 327 - even if I move the tranny crossmember.
Like you said, I think I can use the tranny for the I6 since it already fits with the driveshaft and crossmember. But I'm wondering if it can handle the bigger engine? The 327 is all stock, and I'm just using it as a daily driver - not a hot rod. So do you think the smaller tranny will hold up? Thanks, Greg
