Service and overhaul manuals on CD? Anybody buy these?

Has anyone ever bought these CDs of shop manuals before? If it really contains everything it says, it sounds like they'd be a great deal, especially because you won't be ripping or getting your shop manuals greasy anymore, you just print the pages you need, and toss them when you are done. I was thinking of picking one of these up, but I wanted to see what other people's opinions were first.

I have the Detroit Iron Factory Shop maual for a 1970 Chevy/GMC. Lots of good info contained in it. I thought it was worth the price. Has saved my bacon quite a few times. Just my $. 02 .

I think, if you look a little further, that you'll find that the version for the disk that covers our years of trucks only contain 2 manuals, the Truck Chassis Service and the Truck Chassis Overhaul. The Truck Chassis Service is reprinted and costs about $25 for the paper version. I have not seen the Truck Chassis Overhaul available other than on CD, but I have been told that it goes into greater detail than the Service manual. Maybe some board member knows where to buy an Overhaul reprint...

I think the value of this disc would depend on how much you want to restore your truck as opposed to modernizing it. Also, make sure to find out that you can print out the manual before you buy...I have seen some proprietary manuals that didn't offer the option to print...

Regardless, you intend to print out what you need, so you are going to revert to paper anyway. Why not just buy the manual and take care of it? That way you won't need a computer every time you want to study or repair an item.

Just my $.02...

I had a cd manual for my Z. I really liked printing out just what I needed and tapeing those 1 or 2 pages to my garage cabinet. I could then referance the info easily and I allways knew where it was. I would write in notes on mods or part#'s on the print outs and then put them stapled with receipts in the cars folder when I was done. When something broke, everything I needed to get the warantee part and a memory refresher to boot.

My only problem with it is, I like to flip through tech data while on the throne or in bed. So you HAVE to sit down at the computer to research your next project.
