Driving my Suburban from So. Cal to Eastern Pa.

I live about 20 miles east of Gap.No need for block heaters!It will be cold Tuesday,high of 24.By thursday it will be back to 40.We were riding our bikes new years day,it was 62!There is no smog test on older vehicles.Just had my suburban inspected for $19.00.Last summer was a wet year for us,but we can go most of the summer without much rain.The Beach is about 2hrs south to Rehobeth DE,2.5 to O.C.,MD.As long as you are not homophobic,Rehobeth is a nice,more quite,beach town.Ocean City is more lively.They have a big cruise in May and September.6000 cars and trucks for 4 days.

Make sure You get that 700r4 adjusted right!You will need the new carb on.If You adjust it with the old carb,and switch to the new carb it will need adjusted again.If the TV cable is not right it will burn the trans up fast!A pressure gauge is the best way.Do a search on 700r4.

My inlaws that live there put about 30k a year on their bikes, so I always had a loaner when I visited, I agree there are some of the most scenic places to see there, often to kill time I just cruise around and take in the sights. Mike, thats one of my main concerns right now, getting the700r4 working correctly. My carb should be here by wed. There's some good info on the faq page, let me know if you have any tips or tricks. I rode from Gap to Rehoboth twice in the last three years, we stayed at the beach for a week, I had crab about three times and rode home in the rain, in shorts! I want to go to the ride there for sure, that and I'm excited about the Carlisle show, I'll have the Burb there sooner or later.

Good luck on your trip! Just remember to bring lots of money for gas, soda, and donuts! Also, don't know if you've heard, but Carlisle PA has one of the coolest swap meets I've ever been to. They have one in the fall simply called Fall Carlisle, and they have an all truck swap meet that is huge called the all truck nationals. You can find any part you will need. Looks like you only live about 1 1/2 hours away from there. They also have different shows each weekend in the summer.

I'm in Harrisburg about an hour west of you. Couple inches of snow here today and pretty damn cold. Last week was 60 degrees so go figure.
I can clue you in on some good junkyards and shops out your way, and if you're into drag racing you're close to a couple nice tracks there - Maple Grove and Cecil County MD. I plan to hit each a couple times this year with both my truck and car.

I usually pack a tackle box full of the following:
Extra fuel pump and about 6' of rubber fuel line w/ a few clamps
Fuses
HEI module (like already said)
Junkyard Alternator spare (it works though)
Spool of 18AWG wire and some splices/ring tongues/strippers/etc.

You can jury rig a lot of stuff up with those items.

I didn't set my tv cable.I had a 700 put in a couple years ago.Last week the trans started to act up,so i took it back to the guy who rebuilt it.A spring broke.He charged $112 to change fluid,filter repalce spring and adjust the tv cable.Here is a pretty in -depth article on the TVsystem....http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php

yeah i went back and started to read all the post. i thought he as refering to Wind Gap, but he was talking about the Gap, down in central pa. oh well i will still keep an eye out for the trucks when around crusing.

and yeah no need for a stinking block heater or anything, just a good batt with alot of cold cranking amps. and as for traction... u should be fine.. i drive my velle in the snow, and its good with the crappy bald tires on the back. if u want, get a set of decent snow tires, or chains.

just an update on getting ready for the long haul, as some of you may or may not know, I just got this burb a couple months ago, it barely moved, shot oil all over. Got a 383 dropped in, exhaust all hooked up with 40 series fm's. couldnt get the edelbrock dialed in for nothing so I ordered a demon, she's running pretty good now, but the trans is shifting a bit funny, I've tried multiple positions on the tv cable, where it is now, it engages well-shifts from first to second good but into third it slips just for a second. It feels like pushing the clutch just a bit on a stick. I'm going to find someone local to give it a onceover. Put some new 35 bfg's last week, got the heat/defrost working good, got wipers working and squirters too! from looking at the weather, I'm gonna need em. I still need to do a complete brake job and maybe a heater core, I saw antifreeze coming from the housing, but it may have came from filling the radiator and running down the heater hose. I picked up a core from local autozone in stock! 16 bucks just in case. alot of little things are popping up that I need to get taken care of before feb. 15..... I appreciate everybodys input and advice, I'm hoping for a smooth trip east, worst case I got AAA.

Yes, I cant wait for the Carlisle shows, almost went last year when I was visiting. My boss has a farm in Va. beautiful country! Sitting in the back of my mind is the thought of rollin the burb out there to the show, but I got alot on my plate when I get there. We're remodeling an old farm house, garage and barn. when the house is done its time to do interior and paint on the burb. I'd like to put a limo style "L" rear seat.

Good luck on your trip and have fun in the new place. It sounds like it has a lot of possibilities. The I-40 route is the one I would take after I-10. It is a good interstate and will get you across the southeast pretty fast. I am with you on the I-10 route across the south west also. I have been through southern Arizona and it is very scenic.
Make sure that tranny is shifting right and locking up in 4th or it will give you problems. I take it the wife is going to be accompanying you so you will have a way to go for help if you need it.
This would be a good test for a help list that was discussed a while back

Thanks Vet, I'm a bit nervous about the trip, haven't had the sub too long to know how dependable she will be, brought her to the shop today to get the 700 r4 rebuilt. I searched the posts about rebuilding, but didn't want to chance doing something wrong, I'm heading out in less than three weeks. Yep I got the wife driving her truck, which will be helpful if I need to do a parts run, thought about bringing my tow rope, but I can't stomach the thought of bieng towed by a f**d. If something does happen, thats just part of the journey.
