OK, I'm tearing apart some AC controls, is there any easy way to get the chrome knob off without breaking it or scarring it up? Thanks for the help, Randy

I used a rag and a pair of pliers. It will come off with a little tug. Grab it on the flat sides.

Knobs
I have used a pair of needle nose and levered them off. Doesn't seem to damage the knob that way but if you have new knobs use the previous method - just don't twist or bend them at all.
Good luck - Bob

I USE A CLAW HAMMER (THE NAIL PULLING END) WITH A RAG UNDERNEATH, TO PREVENT SCRATCHES. WORKS GREAT. JOHN

You might try to use something made out of wood or plastic. Who knows you might even be able to market it. :- )

Try letting some penetrating oil sit in the knob over night. I just had to do this a couple days ago. I used needle nose pliers and a rag. I didn't grab the knob but instead used the pliers to pry the knobs off from the backside. If you take your time everything will work out without damage.

A little electrical tape wound around the needle nose plyers, or some heat shrink might prevent scratches too.

I`ve been using the knobs from mid 70`s vans. They look the same as the trucks and come off the levers alot easier. I use a pair of side cutters to cut the originals off. That way I dont damage the levers. Woody
