Still looking for the right 71-72 long box 4x4. May have a 71 1/2 ton 4x4...will see soon.

Wondering if anyone has taken the axles from an 80's 3/4 ton and put them under a 71-72 1/2 ton 4x4? Will the leaf springs bolt right on to the 71 mounts?

What issues did you run in to?

the front axle will bolt right up (at least the spring mounts...the shock mounts may be different), but the rear wont. a rear axle from a 1 ton would bolt right up, though.

If you try to use the front leaf springs they will be too long unless you change the mounting location on the 71-72 frame. The axle itself will have the proper spring pad width and location. The shock mounts are in the proper location also.

I don't know about the rear spring width. The spring pad placement on the rear axle will not work. You will need to remove the spring pads and weld them on in a different location - the width is different. Also, the shock mounts on the rear axle will be wrong. If you get a 1 ton rear end, the spring pads will be in the correct location.
