V-Belt questions.
Last summer I picked up an 85 c10 with a 305 engine in it. The v-belts were all off so I got new ones and installed them as to what size seemed to go where. I have tore up a couple of them already. I am starting to think maybe I don't have them installed correctly.
I saw a picture in a 79 service manual and it's different then how I have them installed but that could be because I have an 85. I am hoping someone can take a picture of how they should be or if they have an 85 service manual, copy the picture and send it to me or post it.. The truck has air cond., power steering, alt, and air pump. Seems like installing v-belts would be a simple thing to do, duh, but not for me.

You might check with the parts store where you got your belts, usually their books(or computers) say what each belt is for(fan & alt,fan & ps,etc).Could it be that there was a problem with the belts before and that's why all the belts were off when you got it? Check all the pulleys for damage like burrs or dents. Is it breaking the belts or chewing them up?

yeah make sure they are on their perfectly straight and the lines are too goofy. The accessories have those slotted adjuster thingies that they attach with, make sure it isn't too tight. I changed my V belts last weekend and somehow, one of them got turned cockeyed, or wasn't on perfectly straight, and rather than it straightening itself out, it just twisted around more, and a buddy of mine spotted it before I went driving off (thank God).
