Grill Conversion? Please Help?

I tried searching with no luck on exactly what I'm looking for. Here's the deal, I am looking to buy a 72 gmc sub, and hate the front ends, and would like to switch it to a 67-68 checvy style front end. From the research I've done I can purchase the new fenders, hood, and radiator support, but the front grill portion is not available. So I would need to find an original center grill section, correct? Is there anything else I am forgetting? Also how difficult is it going to be to get one? I've noticied some of you guys getting rid of them to switch to a newer style, are they redily available?
What else would I need?

That's correct, I haven't seen anyone that makes the grill....yet. I got a real nice one at a junkyard for my dad's 67 for $50. I got a sweet deal, they usually go for a lot more. How hard to find one depends on where you live. Go to swap meets. Should be a couple there. You can also try the parts board here. Once you get the center section you can buy all the trim pieces. You also need a 67-68 hood latch from what I understand. There is also a splash apron the goes in front of the core support that I think is unique to 67/68. This part is in reproduction. I personally like the look of the 67/68 better too.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like I would be able to get the necessary parts for the conversion, I am a little worried about the little things adding up, headlights, clips, that splash shield, etc, but you guys answered my question.

Your front fenders will work, they are the same as the 67-68 chevy except for the trim piece (eyebrow trim).

Those grills arent easy to come by. The po of my truck had cut the center bar off my 67 and i searched a few places for one and most people wanted between $250 -$350 for one in good shape.

raggedjim is correct. The 68 Chevy & 68-72 GMC fenders are the same. You will need the 67/8 core support, hood, center grille, lower pan, hood latch and the headlight harness will need to be modified. I'm sure a GMC guy would consider swapping you a correct chevy headlight harness for your uncut GMC headlight harness.

While the 67/8 center's are difficult to find in nice shape, I have come across a few for under $75 locally that aren't rotted or banged up...
