How Can I use A Z28 for my truck?!
Hey Guys:
I might be able to get my hands on a not running (enigine strats though)79 camaro Z28 fairly cheap or even maybe free!. I was wondering what parts Of this car I can use for my truck. I know about smaller part such as tach but can I use: 1-Power steering 2- front disk brakes 3- Distributor 4-A/C 5- or even the enigine and transmission. I have 3 on the tree on my trcuck. Or any other parts that you can think of. I'll appreciate the inputs. Thanks |

1 the pump yes...the gear box no. You'll have to swap over to the long water pump under the hod of the Z including all the brackets in order to do this.
2 You could, but you are better off getting truck parts...bigger rotors, less (no) fab work...ect. 3 yes...asuming your truck is a small block 4 maybe a small piece or two...compressor maybe...again, for the brackets you'll need to chainge everything over listed in #1 5 yes. ON a side note, I saw a 71 C/20 in the junk yard today, it had a 2nd gen camaro console and seats in it...I don't recomend it...it looked pretty nasty. |

You could take out the tach and install it in the factory tach location. Lots of posts have been written here on how to do it. Too bad you're across the country from me, I'd be interested in some body panels if they were any good.

Ever consider NOT busting up the Z??? The 2nd gen F bodies are starting to come up in value. While they may not be worth what a 1st gen car is, they still are collectible and have a decent market. If the car is restorable and isn't butchered up(as many have been), I wouldn't bust it up. Especially if it has good options(A/C, 4spd, T tops, P/W, ect...) Just my .02

Bagged91, The car is in decent shape although you can see the rust starting on the surfaces, around the windshields. My problem is first, place and then time ( not to mention money too). The car is sitting in the backyard under the blue sky. I covered it but I hate to see it rust away. Beside my mechanical knowledge is very limmited and I am my little free time on my truck. It is difficult situation.

Maybe you could sell it to someone who would be interested in restoring it. Could be a chance to score some quick cash for your truck... They are a popular car, I'm sure you could get a quick sale out of it. I just hate to see collectable cars get busted up if they are restorable.

If your truck has a V8 in it you can use the Distributor. Big block or small block doesn't matter...

2nd gen cars are getting very hard to come buy. I've been hunting several parts for my 70 for years. Funny how every time a new "year one" catalog shows up , BIngo there's a part I need like those B*stards are looking over my car and saying Ok we'll do this part next. $$$$$$$
Sell it complete and spend the money on your truck. |

I can't remember the last time I've seen a '79 camaro....sell her to a good home for some truck part $$$$. My dad has a 68 bird, a 68 bird ragtop, and a 68 bird sprint ragtop. They don't even make camaros/birds anymore..... The parts you can get off of it can be purchased cheaply from a junkyard except for maybe the A/C.

Vince & 67ChevyRedneck, that's exactly what I mean.... These cars are drying up because they have been either butchered or parted. Someday they will start commanding good money like the 1st gens are now. Be like throwing money out the window. There isn't even that many left in the junkyards, especially with scrap going up like it has, they are crushing EVERYTHING now...
It was 23 years ago when my dad got our first F body. That was a 69' Birb 400/4spd ragtop. 6 months later, got a 69' Camaro RS/SS. Bought my 73 SS Nova the next year. 2 years later, 69' Bird 400/T400/AC/deluxe Bench seat coupe. Year after that, 69' Bird 350 Coupe. Still have them all. They were all crusher bait when we got them. There was barely any repro stuff for them and GM parts were scarce... It took almost 2 years to find a suitable front clip for the bird rag...
