Questions about old GM trucks
Hello, I'm kinda a green thunmb to these old chevs/gms as I have been more of a 73-87 guy but now the incredible looks of these older ones are starting to make me consider buying one to restore. What are some good years for these trucks in your guys' opinion? What years were SWB offered and the emergency crank start offered (was it 1930s/40s/50s?)and what type of manual trannys were available? (three on the tree etc) and is there any real neat features/options that are specific to a model year? I thank you guys in advance and look forward to your responses. :p

Just so someone answers you... not sure! Just pick a style that interests you the most. Depends on what you really want to end up with.
Good luck!

I like the 47 -51 model trucks, and mainly because of two things. In 52 the top edges of the bed were flattened out instead of sloped and the wing glass was installed in 53.I like the look of the 1 peice window.I also like the earlier grilles too.
That's just personal preference of course. Pick something you like, and don't rush, take your time, and find the right truck.

I like the one piece windshield and the "different grille" on the 54-55 Chevy trucks. But, the front fenders and grille parts are harder to find.

Yeah don't seem to be as many of that year trucks out there.Of course being less common may someday make them more desireable than any other year in the run,who knows.

I run across 54 and 55 1st series fairly regular. Some already restored. If you get serious about wanting that model(s). Let me know and I'll send you info when I see them.

Finding something that old that is still worth restoring around here is tough.I'm still looking for a bed for my 49 that is in good enough shape to drop on there.
