Dyno Results

OK, I know the plug wires look tacky but I didn't have my wire seperaters with me.... Even so, I had a pretty good day at the dyno. The mill is a pump gas, solid flat tappet, oval port 496. Made 10 pulls. Best numbers were:

586HP @ 5700
600TQ @ 4600

I would've REALLY liked to get that magic 600HP number, but it was raining off and on so the air here wasn't that great... It had over 500 ft/.lbs of torque all the way from 3000 to 6000 RPM's.

I'm pleased with the results for what it'll be used for.

tell us more about this contraption. like cam duration @ 050, and what does the rotating assembly consist of. what are you using for carb. great #s , and i hope you have slicks on whatever your putting that thing in. BIG SLICKS.

Professional Products SFI approved balancer
Oval Port 781 heads with 2.25/1.90 valves with MANY hours (not mine) of port work.
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Barry Grant 850 Speed Demon (custom worked)
MSD 6AL with GM HEI (no vacuum advance)

haven't bought headers yet, but will have 3" exhaust.

can't think of anything else.

Purs...sweet set up. You're numbers are good to see because I'm finishing up a 496 block built in almost the same manner. The only differance is that I'm running a set of Keith Black pistons with a .135 dome (9.5:1 w/ a set of 049 casting heads), a Comp Xtreme energy cam with .555 of lift, and a 770cfm Holley Truck Avenger carb. I gave up a little high end for throttle response & mid range performance, so I probably won't hit your bogey...but with some good air and a few other tweeks up the sleeve, who knows. I'm finishing up my block in a week or so and am having it dyno'd at the shop right after it's done. I'll post my results to see how they compare with your set up.

Sounds like it is begging for some nitrous
Great numbers. Are you planning on running a TH-400? Should expect 480 horse 500 ft-pds. to the wheels, maybe more or less depending on the converter you pick! Then slap you a little 200 shot on that beast!!!

Good luck Big Bad Blazer, let us know when you get the results.

FirstGen, you're right. My builder said that these mild pump gas motors LOVE a little N20.... with this all forged bottom end he said he wouldn't think twice about anything under a 200 shot.... I've got the Cheater kit in the garage right now but am planning on waiting for awhile. When I get tired of it at this power level I'll hook it all up.

As far as the tranny, right now I've got a TH350 but don't expect it to live long behind this TQ. I'm keeping my eye out for a good TH400 core or even a 4L80E...

i run a 350 behind my 468 and have really been suprised how it held up. mine dynoed at 480 at the wheels on the motor. ive heard a th-350 dont have as much drag either. you combination is a good one , that thing is going to be a tire frier. dont cheap out on the convertor cause your gonna need a good one with that torque.

A th-350 will hold up for a while without good traction. After a few good launches, kiss that tranny good bye.

Really, 1.48 sixty foots huh. What are your 1/4 or 1/8 mile times? ET and MPH? How many times you taken it to the track? What is your race weight?

purs i run a" off the shelf "tci . ran a b&m but it kept getting looser and looser. picked up about 6 mph when i changed.FirstGen, i probably have over 50 runs on this combo. weight is 3770 w/out me in it, im 260. best et 6.80 @ 101mph on 200shot (pump gas) and driven through the gate. ran it once at thunder valley in OK. 1/4 was motor pass 12.50@107 w/ slipping ass convertor. dont get to run 1/4 much as the nearest track is 2 hrs away.

Nice times. I was gonna say no way you could pull off 101 mph in the 1/8 with 480 rwhp at 4000 pounds. 6.80's are fast no doubt. I'm very surprized that you still have a tranny, maybe you got a freak th-350.
