speedometer question

My speedometer stopped working, along with the odometer. I think the cable has broken, or at least come loose. Anybody have any other ideas or suggestions, or know how to check the cable?

First. Check where it screws into the tranny to see if that is still connected if it is chech behind the dash where it hooks into the actual speedometer.

Second. If it is hooked in both places unscrew the one on the tranny and hook a drill up to and spin it over while some sits in the truck and watches the speedometer. If it dosen't move its probably the cable.

The problem is usually broken speedo gears.
