Flushin my tank

If I were to drop and flush my gas tank, how would I clean the fuel lines out?

-Cory

Also can I throw an inline fuel filter on the fuel line before the line meets the carb. Can I then do away with the filter in the carb or keep it there?

What about tossing the pickup line into a bucket with some gas in it? and turning over the engine with some wires disconnected.

On my carbureted truck I put the filter under the cab where the line comes out of the floor and goes to the frame rail.

That's just it. I dont know what to use to clean the tank, or what to do about the fuel lines. I suppose I could just let the fuel lines clean themselves out and replace the filters after I get some good gas rolling through them. But again what to clean the tank? I want to put a clear inline filter in the engine compartment so that I can check the filter when I check my oil and such.

i have heard people say dont use glass inline fiters, i have never had a problem with them but i imagine that it could hit the intake and break

Well I would put a plastic one on there. Just preventative maintenance I guess.

if the glass filter is secured away from metal, it is an invaluable tool.
A fuel filter between the tank and pump is a bad idea that can cause or worsen vapro lock. It does this by causing a restriction and causing a lower pressure in the line which with lower pressure comes lower boiling point.
You can steam clean fuel tanhks, that's how our in house radiator shop does it. I did mine like so too.

it takes a few hrs, but it is easy and safe. Pluss, after all that hot water went through there, cleaning out all the gas, you can solder the crack on the filler neck.

Eastwood sells a system of coatings that clean, treat the metal inside the tank, and then seals. This is what I plan on using in mine when I get that far and definatly in the 47.

If you suspect the fuel lines have a problem, replace them and save yourself headaches in the future.
