Tailgate cover and handle flip kit?
I really like the look of the smooth tailgate. What is involved in flipping the handle and installing the new cover? The handle flip looks decently straightforward, but how does the cover attach? Is it similar to reskinning a door or is it something totally different? Thanks!

The only kits I have ever seen just have a pre-formed cap the you weld into the original hole.
I have seen tailgate covers that smooth the bodyline recess panel but they were not really for handle relocation.......it would be a good thing to make though. |

The cover I am thinking of covers the whole endgate, deleting the recessed area that collects dust, dirt, mud, snow etc. Then I would use the flip kit and have nothing but a perfectly smooth endgate on the back of my truck for the nice clean look.

i just bought the entire cover for the tailgate. it hooks over the top of the gate then lips over the bottom. bought the cover for $99 and had the body shop do a nice job for $150. plus the flip kit for $60 that i did my self

I have the same thing as above. I got my skin from sir michaels and then bought a late model tailgate handle and bezel for the other side. The skin from sir michaels doesnt cover the entire outer gate but it does delete the indintion and stops at the top of the ridge.

That one in the pic is exactly what I want to do. It's good to know that it does just clip over both ends and then I can get the body shop to weld it on (or do it myself or whatever). That looks so much cleaner than stock!

i guess i shoulda took a pic of it before i put it on. i actually didnt see it before i bought it but its listed in chevy duty as 'full cover'. it has a lip that hangs over the top and you weld to the inside of the gate. then the bottom of the cover curves half way around the bottom of the gate so as to no interfere with the drain holes. i think it look a lot cleaner than the filler panels.
lemme know if u want better pics of it already on.

i have the sir micheals skin, its outlined in red, and a cheesy drawing of what it looks like before it welded. It buts up to the angle above the tailgate handle and is welded there, also wraps around the bottom of the gate.

I used a Sir Michael's flip kit...then I cut a piece of 18 ga. sheet metal to fill the channel in welded it up and did the body work to it (I liked the look of the stamped letters)....then I bought a lower trim piece...and fliped it upside down so it would run edge to edge without the handle notch in it...
here's a picture..

i actually didnt think 100 bucks was bad for the full cover. fits the body line perfectly, get compliments on it everywhere i go. dont regret a penny. plus its a lot easier than puttin in the filler panel. ive actually even got some decent offers on the full tailgate itself but passed

im not sure what the filler panel is but the full cover has a perfect hook on the top plus the two bends for the body line. guess u could use the machine or just save the trouble. i was happy with my purchase.
