Dash pad repair - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys;
I have a 3 days weekend this week. I thought to do some good to my truck. In continuous of working in interior section, I was able to take the dash pad off this am. Now, I need some advise to see if I can repair this or buy a new one. Thanks in advance and wish everybody a good weekend.

Buy new with one of the venders if your loking for a stock color-material.

I used one of the covers that fit on over the old one, and have been very happy with it. They are made of textured plastic (looks like vinyl), so are much tougher than the vinyl pad, and not one person has ever noticed it was a cover till I told them. Mainly went that way because I didn't want to tear the dash apart again, with Air, it is not fun. Glad I went with the cover, it looks better, and is tougher too.

Dads has a cover on it and I couldn't tell till I grabbed it and it came off,I was like

Covers are conciderably cheaper too.We glued his on with some 3M contact cement,and no one will ever know

You could always go with Just Dashes and get one of the cool gauge pod dashes. That is if you are not on a budget.

In reference to what Brainchild says, when I bought my dash cover, it came with silicone adhesive to use for not only adhering it to the old pad, but also to fill any cracks present in the old pad. If the cracks were bad, the instructions were to trim any pieces curled or sticking up away, and fill the cracks, etc., with the adhesive to make a level surface for the cover to bond to, using that same adhesive. It was a large tube, and I didn't use 1/3 of it on my application, even after filling a few cracks that were present in my old pad. The cover could be snapped on not using it, and would probably stay put (mine was a good, snug fit), but I used the adhesive as suggested. Like I said above, I am very happy with it.

My dad and I re-covered the one in my truck, and it looks 10x better than stock. We used marine grade vinyl from the fabric store. Filled in all the cracks, and then covered it using epoxy and a few staples to keep it tight fitting.
