help with year of 4x4 chassis
I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 chassis under a 71 GMC 4x2 body. I am not sure of the year of the chassis, it has disc brakes, hub size for rims are 4 3/4" (see pictures), and the front leafs are 3" wide. I posted this in the 4x4 board too but I don't know if you all check that board.

There is a number stamped on the left front frame rail, near the power steering pump. It is part of the VIN number but I think it should tell you.

Look in the area on top frame rail on drivers side near /just back of the steering box. Post me the numbers and letters there.

Rod, there are no numbers where you indicated on this chassis, but I looked on my 72 and they are right where you said. I think the PO put the 3" springs on because the front spring mounts and the shackles are bolted on. What is the first year for disc brakes?

Is it just me or does that rear axle hub look like a FURD hub??? All the 3/4 and 1 ton axle hubs I've seen on these trucks are smooth and round, this one has ridges cut into it. I could be wrong but it's just something I noticed.

That second pic is of a 14 bolt rear. 71 is the first year for disc.
