Question Help with setting the timing

when checking the timing with the timing light, what do i set the timing on. what is the configuration where i need to leave it on. I have an 87 chevy scottsdale 3/4 ton with a 305 engine.

Initial (no advance) Timing Only:
The stock initial timing setting will be stated on the under hood sticker.
This sticker also shows the vacuum hose routing detail.
If you have to go to emissions I recommend setting it as stated on the sticker or slightly lower.
If setting for performance I would start with the stock and slightly bump it up and test drive.
Bump it up 2 degrees each time till you find what works best for you.
