found a 327 what should i do?

i found a 327 in a 66 impala in town here, i didnt get numbers off it but im going back to do that.. its going in my 67 truck so its close years. Right now in the truck is a 292 6 cyl, my dad thinks i should keep that but id like to be able to go down the highway at a normal speed and have the sound of a V8 its also a 3 on the column, What should i do? oh yeah.. 125.00 for the 327 and needs to be rebuilt, it also has a 2 bbl on it

is the 292 lacking power or just buzzing a bit too much at hiway speeds? lol, been there done that! A gear change or different tranny would help a lot with that. spend $125 on a tune up and a nice sounding muffler for your 6 and it might change your mind, if the 6 is still good that is. I put a 327 in mine and I like it a lot but there are a few things I miss from my old 250, not the fact that it was toast thought! You'll probably spend a load of cash on re-building that 327, that cash could be used to hop up your 6 a bit, manifold a 4 barrel, header, cam, nice exhaust. but it all depends on the given situation. 327 is my sb of choice! I'd rather hop the 6 than put a stock 2 barrel 327 in if they were both running good. Your chioce. Good luck!

Cool

I agree , that 292 should have GOBS of torque. Gearing is probably "holdin you back" . As for small blocks, 327s are neat , but if you can find a 350, parts to rebuild are much less . Northern has complete kits ( pistons, bearings, rings, cam, oil pump, etc. ,etc.) for around $225- 250 delivered to your door!

Keep the heads if they are double humps and scratch the block. The heads are good for around 300hp if built up right.

build the 327 if the truck is going to be a hot rod, everybody and everything has a 350. 327's are like a musclecar legend. as far as not enough motor, my nova has the original 327 and went a best of 13.69 at 102 mph. Dev.

Naaa, don't scratch the block! If you want a 350, I can find one to trade. 327's are bad!!! (in a good way)

On the heads...I go along the other train of thought, sell them for top $$ to a resto freak,(or give a friend a good deal...either way) and go get some vortecs that will blow them away for 1/2 the price.
Plus, you'll have holes to mount your accesories in the proper locations in the truck.

I have a 327 in mine, and I love it. It's one bad little motor. Everyone has a "350", it's almost as bad a a "Mustang 5.0" Their a dime a dozen, but good 327's are harder to find. I got mine for $100 and it was in boxes. Spent just over $1100 to have it built, and have one sweet motor.

I wouldn't trade it for anything...except maybe a big block.

283 is a bad little motor too if built right. I've never seen one blow up!
