Have you tried to return it? If something is not as described you should ask the seller to take it back first. Explain to them what the problem is. I have done this and had some success. Got a link to the auction? Someone here should be able to tell you what it is for.

Is it for a regular 12 bolt truck rear end? If it is check and see if it is a 4 series. I would be interested. E-mail me if you want to do that.

From what I have gathered from all the information I have seen is that the possi requires a larger housing than the non-possi. So if you are trying to put a possi into a housing that is a non-possi housing it won't fit. I am not an expert on rear ends though, this is just what I have heard. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Any Carrier for a 1/2 ton rearend will fit in any half ton rear end. Posi or not. i'm guessing but You may have a 3/4 ton posi. I havn't messed with the 3/4 ton's but I just did all kinds of work on my half ton and swapped between any GM 12 bolt to any other GM 12 bolt. Until somewhere around 86-88? all of the half ton rear axles were the same guts 2 or 4 wd.

I've done some checking around and havn't found much. I'm starting to wonder though, could this be a dodge carrier? Eaton surely made carriers for companies other than GM right? just an Idea still checking on the casting ##'s.

here's my 2 cents..I have heard that there are two sizres of housing dependent on the ratio going in. The diffs for 3.07 up to 3.73 (I believe) is smaller than a diff for the 3.90 to 5.12 gears..at least that is what I've heard. BTW I had a 3.42 posi put into my non-posi 3.07 without a problem

The carrier is different for high and low gear ratios, but all 12 bolt truck housings are the same, and any carrier will fit in any housing, posi or not. The difference in the high and low ratio carriers is that the mount for the ring gear is offset more on the higher ratios to allow for the bigger diameter pinion gear.

lets see if this works

good works like a charm now you can see the difference in the carriers. the one on the left is a 12bolt chevy truck carrier and the one on the right is the one in question.
