Ignition switch problem

My 68 truck's ignition swicth does not return to the "on" position after it starts. You have to turn it back manually to the "on" position. Also the acc, off, on, and start positions have no identifible feel to them . I usually turn the truck off after it starts because I pass the "on" position . Is this a bad switch or just the lock tumbler? Any one else have this problem?

The key should "spring" back to the on position when you start it. If
it sticks I would try a little WD40 on the key and work it in.

You should feel a click when you go from On to Off to Acc. If you do
not feel it the ignition could be warn.

It doesn't really stick. I just stays where you put it. It moves easily when moved manually. Is the spring back action in the actual switch or just the key/lock cylinder?

This problem happen to me a long time a go and what I did was to just shot some wd40 into the ignition cylinder. Remove the ignition lock cylinder, and spray some wd40. Rotate the switch with a screw driver a few times and then clean cylinder. Reinstall ignition lock cylinder and it should work. Don't forget to disconnect the switch before doing the work.
