Disc Brake Conversion
I finally got around to putting my disk brakes on my 14 bolt FF. I was going to put it in the 83 but now I have decided to put it in the 91 burb I just got. This little project was alot less trouble than I thought it was going to be. I got the plans for the brackets off of e-bay but I modified them a little so they would be stronger and safer in my eyes. I made them at work and they were laser cut on our new Mazak laser.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

I've been wanting to do this conversion for years now! Looks good. How thick is the spacer between the caliper bracket and axle flange? If ya don't mind me askin'.
What are ya gonna use for a master cylinder/ prop valve?

I am sure they will replace them with another brand.

My brakes where done with the original backing plate , rotors and calipers from the front. A notch has to be cut in the backing plate and holes drilled. There is also a spacer. I have the size for the spacer or I can get them. I have always had this info but noone has ever contacted me for it.

The guys that came up with this conversion got all the info from a article in one of the 4x4 mags. They used a magnifing glass to get the part numbers off the parts in the article. I thought that was pretty funny. The only thing this one lacks is the ebrake and it can be had but very expensive from what I have found. Myself I never use a ebrake with a auto, but someone using a standard would have to have something.
Oh, and I'm not trying to steal bussiness or the thread. The 14 bolt ff is pretty easy. |

Not to steal the thread.. But 454 72 4x4 I think I have a set of aluminum spacers from an older kit, before I went to work for blackbirds..
I was only going to ask 60. plus shipping. If your interested, i can take a look for them.. I know mudder has seen them in previous for sale threads I have made.. There are alot of great websites for the 14 bolt conversion.. pirates4x4.com ck5.com and others... I would however ask you guys to do what soleeagle did.. Use a thick spacer instead of the pipe spacers.. I have seen first hand the pipe spacers break and twist under a set of 39 boggers hard braking.. I would offer our kits to you guys, but we don't just sell the brackets.. shakerbuilt.com and some guys on ebay sell them.. Pretty good prices too. If you use shakerbuilt. please tell him blackbirds sent ya..

We found out that there were different rotors (different thicknesses) for sale.Which we found out brought on stress on the bracket. So instead of making 2 different brackets we went one type of rotor that matched what we had. We could see a potential for someone to try and sue us if their bracket broke if they installed it wrong. this way with everything we sell together we know it works.. So it became a liability issue for us.. Plus there are alot of folks that don't have or can't find a machinest or want to deal with a parts store to build a kit.

a ton of places sell the brackets for those of you that don't have access to equipment to machine them. price is usually from 50-75 for a set and then you just need the 3/4 ton front rotors and calipers and break lines
