Rear view mirror glass replacement

I need a new rear view mirror in my 71. Instead of buying a new one, is it possible to just replace the glass? The rest of it is in really good shape but the glass in starting to get really foggy and the backing is starting to come off of the mirror.

I'd take it to a local auto glass shop. I had a glass shop replace the glass in my outside mirrors and it saved me a bundle. They should be able to tell you if the mirror is replaceable and how much.

Measure it up and check your local junkyards. You can probably find a good one in a newer car/truck and simply replace it yourself. Just use a razor blade to cut away all the rubber around the junkyard mirror to make removal easy.

Heheh, you think yours is bad - mine has mold or mildew or something behind the glass. Doesn't really impress the girls..

Just take it to a glass and mirror shop, They will be able to fit it with the proper replacement at a fraction of the cost.

I did it with the mirrors on a 79 chev. Saved about $50.00

I was just walking through the local Pep-Boys and saw a section with replacement glass for inside and outside mirrors. I didn't pay much attention to it cause I was on a mission for something else but I did notice they had replacement glass for rear view mirrors because my kid knocked one off it's hanger. I'll have to go back and look this weekend.

I tried a glass shop in my area and they couldn't help as this mirror is beveled.

Another option is to have your old one re-silvered.
