How much fuel?
Ok Guys, when I take my sending unit out of my tank it works. I drop it back in and soon as it hits the gas It drops to E on the guage. Where is the short?
Will I blow my self up? It is A 69 C-10. Any ideas or advice.

Curious,
Does it work when you move the float manually, if yes then check the float for a leak, thats a common problem, even new ones have a tendency to leak and read E on the guage...

Sounds like you have a crack in the float. Usually they get cracked around the ridge where the wire wraps around 'em.

Yes I can take it out and touch it to the tank and move the sending unit, it moves the guage. I set in a bucket of water at the shop and the float sat on top of the water the whole time, about 20 to 30 min. no leak. I dipped it in Por-15 tank sealer just to be safe. I took it apart and cleaned everything all the connections put it back in and the same thing.

You can run a temporary wire to the tank just to see if that fixes things. Just a few feet over the seat, plug it in, see if it works. If it does work than replace the old wire.
