Score - Ebay parts for my beater & question
Just scored a set of rustfree cali dual tank stepside fenders for my 84. I was the only bidder - can't beat that.
Looks like I might also have a line on a rust free 86 A/C cab in a few weeks. Guess I can start building my Jonny Cash 73, 77, 79, 84, 86 stepper in a few weeks. I'm trying to decide if I should title it as a 77, 84, or 86 when I start building it. Does anyone know when cats were first put on 1/2 tons? I understand the legal implications, but I have titles and vins for all of these years and Indiana doesn't seem to look very closely at old vehicles. |

in Indiana anything newer than 1973 has to have cats, until you get into 3/4 ton trucks. since they dont check here, you can buy 2 1/4" dual exhaust kits through Summit and Jegs (manufactured by Dynomax, Walker, and Hooker) that dont have provisions for cats. with a mild small block, the 2 1/4" pipes will be more than adequate. of all of the 73-87s i've owned, none of them had cats. i also stripped the cat off of my 93 C1500, and nobody said a word, not even at the exhaust shop when i had my tailpipes put on. i would go with whatever vin is in the cab you're using. IIRC the proper rivets to put it back are like 20.00 a piece.

Not trying to sound like Mr Know it all, but no vehicles had cats 'til '75, did they?
