Question 454 swap ?

I have a chance to get a 454 block for $75, don't know what is all there, whether it has cam, crank, heads, or what shape it's in. What's a decent 454 block worth if it doesn't have heads, etc?

If it's fairly complete and I get it, what all needs to change to swap it in place of my 350? I think I need BB towers, new brackets for alt, ps, and AC. Does a TH350 bolt up to a 454, assuming it's not a BOP block, or would I have to switch to a TH400 or something else? Would the stock 1/2 ton springs in the front be able to handle it, or do I need to swap to HD or 3/4 ton?

And lastly, if given this chance, how many would do the swap?

Scott

I don't know all the details to do it, but I'd love to have a good BB (as long as it wasn't a daily commuter vehicle!). From what I understand, performance parts will cost you a lot more with a BB. Of course, with the extra cubes you may not need as many performance goodies as on a small block!

Sounds to me like you have all the bases covered.

No such thing as a BOP 454....they each got there own frame twisting 455.
You will want to keep an eye on the tranny tunnel as you do the swap, all big blocks had high hump cabs...

The bare block is worth more than that as long as there are no cracks and the cylinders are in good condition or can at least be bored. If there are pistons in the block, check to see of they have .030 or ??? stamped on the top, if not, make sure you have the bore checked. $75 is awful cheap, do you know the guy?

So are you guys saying you can't run a big block in a truck with a short hump in the cab? Or are you saying you can't run a TH400? I need to know this. I have a 67 C10 with a short hump in the cab, and I would like to intall a 454 with a TH400. If needed, I could have a tough TH350 built if thats all that will fit.
Help me out here guys! I cant afford ot buy a 454 /Th400 and then find out later it won't fit.

If you can get a good block even if the rest is gone for $75 buy it.to do the swap correctly you should use BB towers, brackets, pulleys, shrowd, possibly a bigger radiator.454 cores in AZ are $750 up in machine shops,if you need any big block parts i prety much have it all,i believe.fastest way to get ahold of me.im using fathers screen name, but this is Desert Rat
