Correct Cab Lights???

Does anydody know which and if a '67 C-30 could have had optional cab lights? My '69 C-30 has the round style (1st pic) but has raised bosses on the roof that they sit on. My '67 C-50 has the bullet style lights(2nd pic) and no bosses. I don't know if the ones on my C-50 are correct, but I can tell that they have been on there a LONG time. The amber lenses are almost white now,and the chrome is badly pitted. My '67 C-30 doesn't them at all, but I want to add whatever would have been correct for the truck. Thanks!

The top ones are correct for the earlier truck, cept they had flat tops (if I have any idea what I am talking about, lol)

I know for a fact that the bottom set are aftermarket, my 80 GMC has a set of those (they too have bad pitting in the chrome) and I just saw a 62 Mercury with a set of them as well.

Yes, they are the same ones that my '69 has, I know they are original. I just don't if they were available in '67. I have never seen a '67 with the round ones. Is is possible that '67 didn't have them at all?? The '67's didn't have side markers because DOT didn't mandate that until '68.

67 trucks did not have the raised areas on the roof for the lights. Some may say 68's didn't as well, but there are a couple out there that do...just another one of GM's slick transitions to the next model year, I suppose
The chrome lights are from the dealership, iirc.

Do you know which or if the '68's without raised areas had cab lights. Did they become a requirment in '68? Thanks again!

Never required on series 10, 20, or 30. 67/68 they were dealer installed if you're lucky, or aftermarket if you're not. All the dealer installed units I've seen are done neatly which is why I say that. 69-up (poss late 68, who knows ) had factory installed lights.

The dealer installed units are teardrop shaped like pic 2, with no hockey puck raised roof mount pads. 69/70 used a round lens on the roof mounts, 71/72 used the modified teardrop like in pic 1.

Note: Series 40, 50, and 60, had the mount pads on their cab roofs in all years 67-72.

Well, Every year I think except '67. My '67 C-50 has no raised mount pads. The roof panel on it looks like any regular C-10. I unscrewed the cab light to check. The holes where the wires go look pretty neat like it was a dealer installed job. The holes were just drilled with a reg drill like most home jobs I've seen. But the I've drawn the conclusion '67 C-30 never came from he factory with cab lights, so I guess the tear drop shaped lights is what the dealer would have installed. I prefer the round '69-'70 lights, but I'm not sure if they would sit correctly since my '67 C-30 doesn't have the raised mounting pads.

I had a 67 CST-10 years ago, and it had the option cab clearence & identification lights stated on the original glovebox sticker which I still have. It did not have the embossed roof panel, and had the bottom selection of lights on your pictures above. It was from a dealer in Crawfordsville, IN and was produced at the Flint, MI plant.

Tim,

Cool! Could you post pic of the glovebox sticker? I'd love to have that code. And you're saying they were the bullit style, right? Thanks!

in 68, the roof clearance lights were required federally on all cab/chassis trucks with dual rear wheels.

However, GM got awqay with quite a bit....68 required side marker lights...federally...the weren't standard on our trucks untill 70
The mirror inside the cab...optional in 68.69...standard in 70n and up (and oddly enough, in 67 too) The were mandated in 69...

So even though the roof lights were required in certian examples, that dsoesn't really mean too much.

I don't know about other states but here in Texas, cab markers are required on any truck wider than 80 inches. The chrome teardrop lights were factory installed on 67 and 68 trucks. The roof pads didn't start until '69, then they went to the hockey puck lenses. You could also get the teardrop lights dealer installed on all 10 and 20 series trucks that weren't ordered with the factory cab lights. I saw a K10 'Burb in Kerrville, Texas that had the chrome teardrop lights, and the original owner had the receipt from the dealer that installed 'em.

You bet. I will try to remember to nab the sticker & a picture of the truck at the same time. I will have to dig a bit so if it takes me more than a day please dont be surprised. If you would like to respond to my e-mail address it is timothyl@vogelsheetmetal.com. This way I can send you a jpeg of both. I still havent taken the time to work out the picture posting efforts involved on the board.

Ozark Tim has solved the mystery!! Some 67's did come from the factory with cab marker lights. Tim's '67 CST-10 came with them and the info is on the glovebox scan below. They are the bullit shaped chrome lights like in the 2nd pic. Sorry the pic is so big!!
