How do you know when your torke converter is bad?
Ever since I had a new flywheel put in there's been a lot of noise coming from the converter or that area at least. All of the bolts are tight and everything seems in order. It still makes a quick screeching sort of a grind noise when I start it, obviously it's not engaging right but can the converter be bad as well?

You had the flywheel put in? If it were me, and it was put in (by a shop), I'd take it back, and make them remedy the noise, and the problems with the starter engaging. You're gonna eat the teeth right off of the flywheel if you keep running it with the starter shimmed incorrectly.
At any rate, what kind of noise does it emit? Is it a knocking/tapping type noise? Good Luck, and ttt TJ

Was your torque converter in the tranny completely? (you should be able to move it back and forth about 1/2 inch) If it isn't, you can put things in a bind. Also, you didn't put the flexplate on backwards did you?

if converter isn't seated right it will kill front bump in a quick ass hurry. either wrong flywheel or starter is staying engaged.

Yes, a tapping clicking type noise. After my rebuilt was installed it wouldn't start correctly so I took it back and they noticed that my old flywheel had broken teeth so they put a new one in, why they didn't put a new one in in the first place is beyond me since they put in a new starter, I had to take it back 3 times for this (and about 6 other times for other things) anyway, the last time I took it back he told me that noise was the oil pump and there was nothing he could do, yeah right!
