Will a 16x8" wheel with 4.5" backspacing work on a 72?
Hi all,
New to the board and have a quick question. I have a 1972 shortbed that I recently bought. I want to change out the wheels on it and I recently found a set that I like. They are 16x8 with a 4.5" backspacing. Would this work on an otherwise stock truck? The truck is not lowered but is running a set of aftermarket wheels now that I don't like. I think they are 15x8 with a 255 tire in front and a 15x9.5 in the rear with a 275 tire if that matters at all. So just looking to see if the 16x8's with a 4.5" backspacing will work on all 4 corners and does that look fine on a '72? My only other option would be to go with a 16x9.5" with a 5.0" backspacing on the rears which might look better but not sure about that backspacing. Thanks for any and all help! |

Bumping this just in case. Anyone know if the 4.5" backspace will work? I'd like to order up the wheels soon. They are Centerline Meteor's by the way

I seem to remember a stock 72 will rub in front with a 4.5" backspace. I have a 71
and was told to go with a 3.75" to 4" max backspace. You should be able to find 16x8 with that kind of backspace though.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking of eventually going with 2.5" drop spindles in the front, would that affect the backspacing I would need?

it could limit how tall of a tire you run in the front, for me i have a 2.5 drop in the front and 4 in the rear.... nothing rubs, i think my front tire is a 255/60/15
hope this helps Rat
