Steel Bed Restoration Questions w/ Pics...

Rain means rust in the Northwest! It seems that every steel 1972 truck bed I look at the rear post to bed has been welded and patched... differently!

I am trying to determine if the second raised ridge is beveled (in half?) around the post / fender. The hand drawn line on my picture is where I believe the bevel goes. Can you confirm this for me?

The bottom two pics are of a truck (not mine) that I looked at for confirm. I am still skeptical. Any one with pics?

Martin

I am hoping that you are talking about the lower two pics of the truck.

Thank you for looking... Martin

Heres a few pics for you. I ran outside just now and took them. The corners are a little dirty but I saw one small spot near the tailgate that was welded. The rest was not welded, I am pretty sure the truck bed is all original.

My 72 GMC only had about a 1 inch weld total. It was the last inch of the post ending at the bed edge. Almost exactly like the pictures in the previous post.

Hope that helps.

Great pics... Thank you. I feel like I have a better idea now. Funny how small things like this are hard to find out! Martin

Thank you for the info... Now that you mention it.. all the better condition trucks are welded the same. Martin

Sorry I didn't clarify....my truck looks exactly like your lower two pictures and Sooner's pictures. Mine hasn't been welded on at all.
