4L60E aluminum driveshaft fitment
Sorry if this has been answered a bazillion times, guys....I wish the search feature was working.....
I have sitting in the bed of my 71 Cheyenne a 99 5.7L and 4L60E from a 'burb. I also have the nice aluminum driveshaft from that same vehicle. Since the 4L is ~2" longer than my TH350, I will have to have my driveshaft shortened anyways. Is there a way to use the one piece aluminum shaft? I appears as though there would need to be some serious surgery to the center mount X-member for this to work.....anyone done this? Would I also have to lower the tranny mounting point to get a better driveshaft angle? Thanks, Tim

I may be missing something but being made of aluminum doesn't enter in to it. Most of us run one piece steel driveshafts on SWB trucks--the two piece is nothing but trouble. BTW--But I'll give you $5 for that driveshaft!

This is a LWB 3/4 ton Cheyenne 20 fleetside. As I look at the driveshaft from under the truck, the one piece looks as though it would hit the X-member where the center bearing is mounted. Is there a work around to that problem? Fabbing a new X-member isn't a problem, but maybe there is an easier way?

Sorry, I've never tried putting a one-piece in a long bed--but this will bump you up........
But if I was determined to use it, I'd modify the existing crossmember--or you could just stick it in and drive very slowly over uneven ground until you built some confidence it wasn't going to hit????

Well....on closer inspection, the aluminum shaft has some dings...from the forklift at the yard I suspect.....I will just have the original shortened......
