Ive got sanderson headers to 2 1/2" dual pipes and magnaflows to 5" tips in the back. im considering puttin in the H pipe but im wondering what exactly the advantages are to them. anything?

Better sound, equalization of engine pressure, and better sound. Personally, I would not have duals on anything without it.

It helps to boost the low end torque a little. In all reality, many times it is not noticeable, but it quiets down the exaust a bit and does make it sound better as barn mentioned.

I put an H pipe on my 67 after I had put the duals on and did notice a sound difference. As far as the torque or performance gains they were minimal. What are everyone’s ideas on exactly where the H pipe should be installed for maximum gains? After I had installed mine (of course) I was told that the best location for one was determined by drawing lines down your exhaust pipes with a wax based china marker. Then drive it around for a day or two and checking where the wax stopped melting off, and that was suppose to be the best location. ?????

I have always been told to use spray paint and run it around the block and then look for the same as you describe.
This mod can make tranny removal a real PITA, it wouldn't be a bad idea to install an extra set of header collectors just south of the tranny so you can unbolt the whole H-pipe as an assembly for tranny removal and not ruin your pipes.

would u guys still recommend the pipe with the additional complications involved?
