Blazer tank strap and j-bolt mount question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

For anyone with an intimate knowledge of the Blazer tank conversions... if I were to mount the tank higher (normally the tank tabs "top out" on the bottom of the frame rail... instead, use those tank tabs to top out on the bottom of the TOP frame rail), would the stock straps and j-bolts still work?

Or, if you've got any good pics of a stock-location setup, please post them so I can get a sense of whether the j-bolts and straps might work on what I'm describing above.

I didn't use the "J" hooks. I used longer bolts instead. Just the way I wanted to do mine. If you mount it higher like you mentioned, won't it hit the bottom of the bed? Mine would have.

I would not depend on the lip to support the tank. You'll still need the straps. When that tank is full, it will put a good deal of pressure and strian on the tank lip. The straps help to even out and displace the weight load.

Bed floor is higher than stock, so clearance is not an issue. I'm thinking that the lip on each side of the tank would bottom out on the top rail (instead of the bottom rail), and then I'd modify the straps somehow to still bear the load like they do normally... just with the tank higher.

It looks like it would work w/some slight mods to the bottom frame rail so the 'straps' will clear. Then just bolt them to the top side of the frame instead of the bottom.
