I am preparing to paint the axles and frame. I have seen your pics and in some cases, trucks. I want a nice finish, durable finish and long life. Short of powder coat, what do you guys use?

Just cleaned it really good then painted with black paint. I usually go over faded spots with good spray bomb.

Sounds like plain old Black paint it is. I have it blasted clean and totally disassembled right now.

bodazpa, looks great. I like paint so I can touch up at any time over powdercoat.

Mine actually stays on pretty good but then I dont drive it everyday. Think I used the Rustoleum one time and it worked pretty good.

Getting it really clean first has always been most important part in my opinion. I use Krylon semi-flat black spray paint. It's not flat nor glossy and has just the right look for me. When mine is clean, I usually get compliments on how good it looks under the truck.

I just sprayed the axles on my 71 4x4. I don't drive it much either, but they have held up fine so far.

On the truck we are building, we have been using tractor/implement gloss black paint. I swear this stuff is like por 15, but only $20/ gal. It seems very durable and keeps a good shine. I would personally recommend it. I have tried por 15, poly paint.... I think this stuff will hold up and look very nice, just a little thicker than the restoleum. Hope this helps.

I have decided to go with the semi-gloss Black. I do not want it to shiny and then have to try and maintain the gloss. I will drive the truck. Someday. Thanks guys.

I used POR 15 on my green one and DP90 on the blue one. The DP90 isn't holding up as well as I expected.
