Shanes looks like hugger orange, JHickson6 and HvyChevy454 are some other orange, maybe tangier. I don't have a pic of mine fully painted but here's the painted door. On 72 GMC's, GM called the color Red-Orange, but it's the hugger orange which originated on the maro.

A little more info on Hugger Orange:
It was introduced in 1969. It was the marketing nickname for the 1969 Camaro, appearing in magazine ads and commercials. It was in reference to the cars handling characteristics (it hugs corners... so it's the hugger!). GM advertising used the hugger promotion to offer special color combos with hugger orange paint and an orange and houndstooth interior. Of course the '69 Indy Pace Car had hugger orange stripes. Hugger Orange on Corvettes was called Monaco Orange on GMC's the name was Red/Orange. The color has always been confusing because it changes from red to orange, depending on the light. Here's a '69 mero in the sun - looks orange, right?

jonnyp that is an incredible truck and an incredible story. Your web page is fantastic! I wish you lived closer to me.....what a great resource you would be. There is nothing better than a story to go along with the truck.
