Question rear pinion seal leaks

I have a 3/4 ton 4X4 with a perfectly round 10 bolt rear that the gearset comes out the front of the axle (eaton?). Is a 4:10 posi unit. Any suggestions on keeping the pinion seal from leaking? Seal was recently replaced but didn't fix the leak. Maybe in wrong? or can they be put in wrong? I have seen posts that these rears leak badly, has anybody got a fix besides changing the rear. Doesn't leak anywhere else. The engine a different story though, I keep the dust down on the road wherever I go. lol

Can not help you with your pinion seal leak (I have a dana 60 rear), but I can sympathize with you on the engine leaks. Just replaced the front seal, now looking to do the rear.

yes, the pinion seal can be put in wrong, you need to make sure it went in perfectly straight, or real close to it. If it gets crooked in the bore at any time during installation, it can distort the seal, and therefore, not seal, also, there is usually a spring around the inside lips of the seal, these can pop out when driving the seal in, and I usually hold the spring in with some gun grease packed to the inside of the seal. Check your pinion shaft for wear on the sealing surface, if it shows any grove at all, I'd get a speedy sleve from your local parts house, this gives a new sealing surface to the shaft.
