GM restoration packet
OK, I've gotten PM's asking about this restoration packet...or when I refer to dated GM material...well, here's the scoup.
Go out and write down your VIN (or make up an acurate one) Call 1 800 222 1020 press 1 for english press 4 when prompted for what department. They will ask you your name, phone number, e-mail addy (so they can spam you probably) and your street address. Tell them that you heard that they offer a restoration packet. They'll ask for what vehicle, and then they'll want the VIN. Then in 6 - 8 weeks (all mine came in more like 1 to 2 weeks) you'll get a big 'ole packet in the mail. There will be a bunch of stuff that you probably won't want, but in that mess will be a bunch of photo copies of the old dealer books. In this, there will be all kinds of specs, option listings, base model equipment...ect. All this for FREE!...at least, for all of us in the USA anyways. This will NOT include info on your specific truck, like when it was made, nor where it was sold, or what options...ect. It is generic info. Now, for our Canadian friends, there is another number (please some one post there number) and they have to pay for there packet...however, they get info on that particular truck, and Canadian production numbers and all that good info. I JUST got done ordering the last one I needed...1972. Once that one gets in, I'll have to punch the holes in it and put it in my 3 ring binder with all my other info. (y'all don't think I actually REMEMBER all this stuff do you) It took me all of 5 min on the phone. There has been reports in the past on here, that ppl never recieved there packet. While it never happened to me personally, you could always call them and they'll get another one out to you. Only Chevy would do this for you....heck, GMC doesn't even do it..GMC owners have to go by all the Chevy info. *update*28 Feb 2007 You'll have to press 4 again for cutomer assistance... so now you dil the number, press 1 for english, press 4, then 4 again, and that'll get you to the person you need to speek too. I just ordered another 72 packet since I gave my first one to Dubie last summer. This cat told me after typing my name into his computer, that I already had one for a 72... i just told him I gave it to the guy who i sold my 72 C/10 to. yeah, sure, what ever. well, they DO have your name on file...if you get 5 1969 packets, they'll probably *forget* to send you one at all....but if you have one of each year...or you make them think you have one of each year...then yeah...they'll send you one for each year.
Oh, BTW...the '70 packet is pretty lame...I would recomend getting the 70, but also the '69 packet too. |

jake, there are between 40 pages to well over 100...probably more like 120 pages.
besides, they are free. as for wanting a vin for each year, just look at how the VIN code breaks down, and make one up like for a 67... CS147A129079 |

This is what page is the important one for the Canadian sold trucks...it shows what your truck came with for options..the rest of the pages in the GM Vintage Serices of Canada packet are just copies of pages from a dealer data book.
I edited the persons name it was sent and the part of the vin.
