Late Model Center Caps

Has anyone tried using the later model Center Caps on thier ealier 80's 15" X 8" Truck Rallies.

I realize that the lugs are somewhat special, but didn't know if it would clear the disk brake rotor as it penetrates the front wheel.

Thanks in advance.

I've got the satin black on my beater. I like the looks better than the 70-80's style. The 1/2" conversion lugs(the correct lugs for these caps is for 14mm studs) can be purchased @ Affordable Hubcaps on Harry Hines Blvd @ forest Ln. for about 2$ a pop. I have 15x6/front & 15x8/rear ralleys & the caps bolted up w/no mods.

Hey Scoti,

Believe it or not, I have actually seen your truck in person. Long before I knew you were on the board. You were parked in front of the "Northern Tool & Equipment" in Garland off of I30 and Beltline. I was on my way in and caught site of your "beater" and drooled all the way into the store.

About a week ago, I was doing a search, and ran across a picture of your truck, and said, "HEY I KNOW THAT TRUCK !!!!".

Anyhow, you've got a really MEAN stance.

Back to the subject at hand, I found a guy on ebay that sells chrome centercaps, lugs (1/2" or 14mm), black lug covers, and stainless rings for 4 wheels for 65 dollars. Was about to go for it, but thought I would at least verify if they would fit my 8" ralleys first.

Thanks man

Hey, let's make this a DFW-TX thread!

I guess I'm not far from you guys, about 30 miles south of Dallas (I work in Dallas, though). I have wide 6-lug rallyes from probably 70's 4x4. They have the big deep center caps (will fit over the front hubs on 4x4). I lost one on the way to work one day. Anyone know where to find another (for a reasonable price, of course!)?

Scott, I used to have them on my RestoRod 67. I know for sure I've got @ least 3 of the 5-lug style so I'll check this weekend for the 6-lug. If I have one your welcome to it.

Wink I use them also

I use them on all the ralleys that I run. The way I put them on is turn them over and remove 3 of the plugs on the 5 legs and line them up with 3 holes in the rim,use a self tappn screw and then I buy a set of chrome lug nuts and it looks great.I got a set of them on the 68 lwb that I got for sale.

Thanks, Scoti.

Are any of you going to the Chevy Pride Family Picnic at Lake Lavon Aug. 3rd? I just saw it last night on one of the posts. I haven't been involved in the Southern Bowties club, but it sounds like fun.

I'm definitely going to try & go but I haven't registerd as of yet. It would be good to check out other local board members rides or if they aren't running you @ least get to match the name to a human. I believe the deadline is 7-22 for registration. Did you have the old style pot-metal/steel 6-lug center caps that attach w/3 small bolts @ front of wheel or the newer plastic late model type that attach via the lug nuts?

Cool

I just registered last night. Wife and kids don't get back into town until tomorrow, but I decided to register now instead of waiting 'till we firm up our plans.

I have the old style center caps that attach with 3 screws (maybe 1/4" thread diameter?). Family has the digi camera with them, so I can't go get a pic of it. Here is a profile view of the truck, maybe you can make out the caps in it.

I haven't tried posting pics before, so don't know if this will work!

I guess the IMG is for only linking to a website (which I don't have ). Let's try again using an attachment:

Yep, I've got one of those around here somewhere. I'll dig through the attic or parts shed & get it for you. If you can hold out until the picnic I'll give it to you there?? Hey, thats a nice looking truck.

Thanks!

The truck looks better in pictures than in person, but it's still in pretty decent shape. Body doesn't have rust, but unfortunately the front driverside fender/bumper had a little accident with the previous owner. I haven't done anything about it, otherwise the truck would look really great (except for the scratches I've added while working on our land, I didn't buy it to be a show truck). If I could just hurry up and get our house and barn built, I have a few plans to upgrade it.....
