Trying to find my engine ID but...
I tried to look all over the block and couldn't find anything. Now, the block does have some sludge build up on it in the designated areas for the #'s. My question is (fairly simple one) Can I degrease my engine without having to start it up? The engine is not ready to be cranked up yet. Oh, and uh, no pressure washer either? Suggestions? Is it possible they're not on there?

wd-40/carb cleaner, partsbrush/stiff tooth bruch, a small mirror and flashlight
The above make it easier... first spray the front of the block just under the head (probably behind the altenator...did you think it'd be easy?) scrub with the brush, wipe with a rag, shine a bright flashlight at angle till you can read the vin No#(should be a stamped in smaller number which you can use to decipher to lant yr and sequence VIN. You can also do the same behind the driver head above the bellhousing to find the casting no# which should get you down to plant and size/type of motor.... to do the casting number you really need the mirror.. either way its not an easy clean thing to do...
