Question Rear Lower Shock Mounts??

I have this HO72 that I am rebuilding. Somebody cut the shock mounts off of the axle tube. Since now I have to decide where to locate new lower shock mounts. What is the best location for lower shock mounts on a 71/72 K20 that will be used primarily for the street with a 4" lift??

The upper frame mounts will remain in the stock location. Is it better to move the lower axle shock mounts out towards the hubs farther? Or did I read once that shocks work best in the most 'upright position'?

Thanks for your input on this,

If you can move the bottom mounts closer to the axle ends and still have clearance you will gain a more "anti-roll" or sway control. The front shocks are mounted that way just for that reason. How the shock is valved has to do with how it is mounted. A totally vertical shock will be valved much softer than one mounted at an angle because it has a 1 to 1 movement with the suspension. If you look at the shocks on the 73 up trucks they were moved outboard of the frame for sway purposes and they were staggered front and rear on the back axle to help control axle hop. Give it a try if you have the clearance.
