Replacing exhaust manifold gasket?
I got some gaskets from Napa which dont require you to take the manifold completely off. They just slip down over the bolts. I know they arent the best but better than hearing an exhaust leak. My question is, what is the best way to get in at the exhaust manifold? I have A/C and the side that is leaking is on that side. Should I attempt to remove the fender well and go at it that way? Or should I remove the A/C crap and try to get to the manifold from the top? Thanks for any advice!

It's prolly easier just top remove the AC compressor, and move it out of the way.Tie it out ofthe way if needed. It would be a lot harder to go at it from the fenderwell I think.

Not sure what engine you have but the air will be bolted to the manifold in the back. You should be able to get at it with a 6"+3" extension on a 3/8 drive socket under the compressor. If the blots are rusted bad pickup new ones for the manifold as they will probably break or round off alittle. most exhaust gaskets you take out the middle bolts and loosen the end bolts. Just something to think about How ya gonna get the old gasket off if it even has one? Most BBC from the factory didn't have a gasket. Don't know about SBC's.

How are your bolts If you SNAP one, loose n it your up the creek!
I would take the sucker off clean it all up put new studs on there then slip your gaskets in there and tightn it up. Noth n wrong with those gaskets. You mean the three to a side ones right?

Yes, the gasket is made so that you can break it apart at 2 segments and end up with 3 smaller pieces. You have each end and then a double segment for the middle. Looks like it has a metal shell with rubber in it. My engine is a V8 350 and the passenger side has a pretty distinct exhaust manifold leak. I am wanting to get rid of the leak because I think it will help clear up some of the noise in the cab?

Just unbolt it and put it out of the way like they said before make sure the old gaskets r out before installing new 1.Allso u may have 2 loosen the bolts at the flange to get some room behind manifold to clean.GOOD LUCK

Yep its frusturating that you have to take it off but I would in your case so you can properly scrape off all the old gasket material in there. Ya know if you don't want that A/C compressor in there I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands for ya!!!!

Unless your manifolds are pretty rough, I wouldn't use a gasket. They didn't come OEM with them. You will need to remove all the old material for a good seal.
