Getting ready to start it up today!! ( I HOPE)
Getting ready to start it up today!! If the weather will cooperate.
1972 GMC long fleet 2wd 1971 Chevy 4 bolt 350, .10 bore, 9.5-1 flat top pistons w/moly rings, double roller chain, ARP moly rod bolts, bronze guides, Z-28 springs, cam 214 intake 224 exh .50, 443 & 465 lift with lobe center 107 -117 at 112 degree, Weiand Stealth manifold, Carter carb, Flow Tech Ceramic coated headers, GM HP HEI ignition, Taylor custom wires, mini starter, GM Performance Parts valve covers, air cleaner and serpentine belt system, three row radiator w/overflow, dual electric fans and ac from Old Air Products, wiring from MAD Electronics ( only partially done for start up) GM Performance Parts 700r4, TV Cable system from Bowtie Overdrive, Lokar shift linkage, dual exhaust from summit. And Countless hours spent on this web site researching and learning from the many knowledgeable people who share the love of old trucks as much as I do. Thanks!!!! One question I have never had an air-conditioned truck of this vintage and I noticed that trucks with air seem to route their heater hoses to the manifold and radiator is this the proper setup or is it optional?

That looks sweet man! Not sure about the heater question, you might try a post to get the attention of other Old Air users.

It Runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Started it up ran like a million bucks, one small tranny line leak, otherwise went great. The son was there was just like back in the day his first truck was a 67 that we set up back in 1987. My wife videotaped it; (you know your a motor head when you bring the whole family to a motor breakin) all three grandkids were there it was fantastic. The oldest grand daughter who help me several times now thinks that she should get the truck when she turns 16, she is not quite 11 so I have a few years to work on that. Now all I have to do is put the rest of it back together.

Hell I get excited when I hear other peoples start for the first time, much less something of mine. My buddies dad is almost done restoring a 62 409 Bubbletop Bel Air and I keep reminding him to let me know when his dad is going to fire the engine for the first time. I can't wait for a ride in that thing, with 409 horsepower, 4spd and 4:11's it ought to be awesome.

One hose should come from the water pump. There is a place to install a fitting just above the lower radiator hose connection to connect it here. Then you can run the other hose to the manifold or to the radiator. Either way will work but you'll have to run it to the manifold if you don't have the outlet in the radiator. My 72 connects to the manifold. Hope this helps,
Mike
